A text message from Jeremy at 7am on Tuesday 21 November 2006 began;
'Good Morning O Beautiful Mother of Mine.'
Of course I dialled his number to speak to him. This had become common practice.
He was waiting for his boss 'Nudge' to take him to his plastering job.
He was so happy!
He had made an appointment to have his hair cut and coloured on the following Thursday evening. Apparently some chick had said to him 'Whats with the hair, dude?'
He talked of the plans his boss had made to take the boys to Melbourne for a weekend prior to Christmas. A way of thanking them for their efforts at work.
He looked forward, with anticipation to travelling to New York with Claire and me in January.
His boss arrived and our last words to each other were of our love.
I said 'Love you Sunshine.'

May the Lord bless you Jeremy and hold you in the palm of His hand

Have you ever had a son who meant the world to you?
One you loved so very much, and miss him like I do.
Have you ever felt the heartache, or even nursed the pain?
Or even shed the tears that drop like falling rain?
If you’ve never had those feelings, then pray you never do
For on that day that Jezza left me, a part of me went too.
Love you Sunshine.
Miss you with every heartbeat.

In March 2007 'The King' reached a milestone in turning 60.
He shows very little interest in gifts, so was was given money. We desperately needed an outdoor setting!
Promptly at 4pm each afternoon it is 'beer o'clock.'
He basks in the glory of the magnificent views, Melbourne Bitter in hand.
After months of looking, we eventually agreed on a setting.
So! Why does 'The King' still sit on this:

While I enjoy this:

He says he likes it!
Maybe the stubborn streak shows!
The other pieces remain packaged in the garage waiting for the day that the tiler returns and we eventually get the job finished.
I will not hold my breath....

Letter to my Children
(A little 'tongue-in-cheek')
I remember telling you that when I retired, I was going to to begin preparing for the day that I would no longer be on this earth.
It was my intention to sort through all my paperwork and place everything into boxes and packages clearly marked with your names. I was going to have everything in order. A place for everything, and everything in its place.
Having lived with me you know that I like order in my life.
I intended to give everything that had not been used in the past 12 months to charity.
Well! I would like you to know it is not happening.
Instead, I have discovered the world of writing.
I light candles and leave tributes on Memory-of sites. I e-mail friends from all over the world as we remember our loved ones.
Each day I look forward, with anticipation to preparing my Post for the day. I have taken to blogging like a duck to water.
I write pages and pages of my life story.
When the day comes that you are left to sort through the mess I would like you to know that for the very first time in my life I am doing exactly as I want.
And loving it....

At the time of Jeremy's accident I was working my way through the course to become a Funeral Celebrant.
I had prepared my portfolio and knew this verse was perfect for me to read at his
Celebration of Life Service.
‘I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,’ He said,
‘For you to love the while he lives, and mourn for when he’s dead.
He may be six or seven weeks, or 24 years, or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charm to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs who crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labour’s vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call and take him back again?’
I fancied that I heard them say, ‘Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joys Thy child shall bring the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness; we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.
But, should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.
